**Sites** allow you to create custom views and organize them into pages, structured through a navigational menu. Each site consists of two main components: a **menu** and a **main view**. The menu—typically a sidebar or top navigation bar—contains items that represent individual pages. Selecting a menu item displays the corresponding page in the main area. Each page can include widgets and other graphical elements, tailored to provide quick access to relevant information and functionality.

## Examples

An example of a Site is a **Service Portal**, where the menu might include items such as:

- All Support Items
- Assigned to Me
- Report an Issue
- Product Documentation
- Service Ticket Statistics

Each menu item opens its own main view, tailored to the specific actions or information relevant to that section.

Over time, **Starhive** will continue to expand the types of pages available within Sites. Currently, the primary page type is a dashboard-style layout, where pages can be configured using flexible arrangements of widgets.

## Terminology

**Site** - The entire site, consisting of a side bar menu and a main view containing widgets.

**Menu** / **Side Bar** - The menu where you navigate into pages.

**Main View** - The pages containing widgets and other contents where the user can interact with data.

## Switch between sites

To quickly switch between sites, click the site name in the top-left corner to open the site switcher.

# Manage Sites

## See available Sites

Click Sites in the menu. If there are any sites available to you, they will be visible.

## Create a Site

To create a Site, navigate to `Sites` in the menu and click the `+` button.

An empty site has been created, along with a default page placeholder.

To the right, is the site configuration area.

## Configuring Sites

> ℹ️ Requires Admin or Owner role of the site

**To access the configuration settings from within a site**, click the three-dot context menu button in the top-right corner, then select **"Configure"** from the dropdown.

**To access configuration settings from the Sites overview**, hover over the site card and click the **cogwheel icon** that appears.

Sites are configured via the right side configuration bar. It is sectioned as:

- Site name
- Site logo
- Layout
- Pages
- Appearance

### Custom domains

Sites can be accessed through a custom domain instead of the default platform domain.

Configuring a custom domain requires Admin or Owner access and the ability to manage DNS settings for the domain.

After a domain is added, DNS verification may take a few minutes due to propagation. During this time, the domain will appear as Pendin. No action is required.

If verification fails, it usually means the DNS record has not propagated yet or contains a typo.
For newly registered domains, DNS propagation can take longer (up to a few hours).

Review your DNS settings and add the domain again once it’s ready.

**Note:** Custom domain limits vary by subscription plan: **Starter/Essential** allow **2**, and **Scale** allows **4**.

### Preview site

When editing a site, you can preview it before publishing to see how it will appear to end users.

Preview mode allows you to:

- View the site as yourself or switch to view the site as an external user, simulating the experience of someone using the published site.

In preview mode, the site runs in read-only state. This means:

- You can navigate through all pages.
- You can view all widgets and interact with them as a user would.
- You cannot create or update any objects. Any actions that would mutate data are disabled.

### Publishing a site

When you make changes in a site, a draft will be created automatically. You can publish or discard this draft. Discarding removes the draft and resets the view to the published version. Publishing replaces the published version with your draft, making it available to your site users.

If there is an existing draft, it will be loaded when you enter the mode to configure your site.

### Site logo

Enhance your site’s branding by uploading an image to use as logo.
